Farm Neighbors

Last summer when I was here, the Amish neighbors were harvesting wheat. Now, in the early autumn they are bringing in the corn stalks to make silage.

The Amish community here are not allowed by their rules to have any rubber on their steel wheels so their buggies and wagons make quite a clatter on the roads. The rumble and shake from the double trailer loads can be heard from half a mile away.

The idyllic weather combined with the old fashioned machinery and horses make for pastoral scenes.

My son-in-law is good friends with many of his neighbors who stop by to chat, get advice or use the phone nearly every day.
We never know when someone may be stopping by and it keeps the day interesting.
